Amy Lea is a reformed workaholic and the founder of My Constellation, using Human Design and Astrology as archetypal systems that can help you uncover your true self, lead with your strengths and create your most aligned and enriching life. She lives in Queensland, Australia with her partner and her dog and is practising what she preaches by living with ‘coherence over hustle’ and helping others how to do the same. Today, Amy is not just showing us what it on her list, but teaching us a thing or two about living life at your own pace.
What’s on your to-do list today?
It’s Tuesday as I write this, and Tuesday (Mars Day) is usually my bigger workday where I try to tick off more project-focused work and admin tasks.
Today’s to-do list:
Walk and coffee with my two loves.
Pilates class at 8:45 am.
An hour or so of admin work after pilates from the cafe next door — this is where I currently write to you from.
Filming a new mini-workshop for my Substack on using Human Design to step into your authority.
Check in with my team this afternoon.
Heading to the fishmonger this afternoon to get some fresh sardines for my dog Marni.
What’s one thing you’ve already crossed off?
It’s now 9:45 am, so I’ve ticked off walk, coffee and pilates.
Do you write lists on paper, in notes, in your head, or not at all?
I have tried all of the scheduling and time management programs there are, but I always find myself coming back to handwritten lists. I particularly enjoy using a coloured notebook. Right now, I have a yellow one that I love. There’s something so satisfying for me in writing out that list fresh each day, then ticking things off as I move through them. In saying that, I do try to have at least one workday per week where I don’t have a list at all, and I just allow my body to move me into action.
What’s the first thing you do when you wake up?
Always cuddles and chats with my partner and my dog. Then it’s usually a slow emergence into the bathroom, to wash my face, brush my teeth, then I try to drink some water and head out for a walk and to get some sunshine.
What’s always on your bedside table?
Water! I always have a water bottle sitting there. And at least 4-5 books that I am currently reading.
How do you like your mornings to feel?
I like my mornings to feel soft and spacious. I spent many years of my 20s trying to force these elaborate and rigid morning routines, but I realised that was actually very contracting for me. I now know that I am at my best when my mornings are gentle and soft, with lots of space to land in the day.
What’s in your mug or on your plate today?
This morning was water, coffee and a breakfast of two eggs, halloumi and leftover pumpkin from dinner last night.
I’m planning to order a smoked salmon bagel from the cafe for an early lunch.
Something you’ve stopped doing and don’t miss?
Forcing rigid morning routines lol.
What are you working on that excites you right now?
My Substack! I had been contemplating creating a Substack for a year or so, and came close to launching in March, but something told me to hold off. I’ve enjoyed Substack as a user for so long now that it just felt like it made sense to share and create here as well.
How do you know you’re in alignment in your work?
I know I am in alignment with my work when I feel creatively inspired and momentum around what I am creating and putting out there, but my days still feel spacious with room to breathe and actually enjoy life. This is when I feel like I am in a flow state with my work. And I find that I am a much lighter and playful person when I am in alignment. That’s how I feel when I am at my best. When out of alignment, I tend to overwork and become quite serious and focused, but not in a helpful or productive way.
How do you rest or recharge during the day?
This varies depending on the day, but more often than not, it involves getting outside into the sun. I live in Queensland, Australia, and we are really fortunate here with our climate, so I can do this most of the year. I am also very fond of daytime naps and often nap on weekdays if I need it. I also love to stop and read or listen to music. If I am feeling really flat, I will stop and give myself an afternoon to just cook, listen to music and chill.
How do you like to end your day?
I love to end the day cooking dinner with my partner and trying to catch the sunset. We go to bed early and wake early, so we eat at 5-6pmish then have a couple of hours to wind down gently. My favourite evening ritual at the moment is showering with a candle or a red light lamp, then getting into bed and reading for 30 minutes or so. I find that process really soothes my system and helps me wind down. I’m usually falling asleep at 9-9:30pm.
What’s currently on your nightstand/playlist/altar?
On my nightstand: candles, water, my Kindle, books and magnesium capsules.
On my playlist: Olivia Dean on repeat at the moment.
On my altar: I actually don’t have an altar at the moment. I’ve been travelling and between homes, very in flux, and all of my things are in storage. So in this season, my altar is me. When I want to drop in, I tend to do so from bed, with hands on my heart.
Thank you for sharing your list with us.
